Abstract

B a c k g r o u n d . The use of vector geospatial databases by the armed forces of the world′s leading countries is a key element in supporting modern military operations. Such databases provide detailed information about geographic features, their current condition, infrastructure, and other critical aspects that enable armed forces to effectively plan and carry out a wide range of missions. The armed forces of leading nations employ vector geospatial databases for operational planning, reconnaissance, navigation, and various other tasks.

M e t h o d s . The following scientific methods were applied in the course of the study: analysis of scientific and reference literature on the research topic; methods of systematization and generalization of scientific information related to the nature and content of the defined objectives; and a systematic analysis of current regulatory documents related to vector databases.

R e s u l t s . As the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) transition to NATO standards, one of the key priorities is the implementation of interoperability principles in the domain of geospatial data. The Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program (MGCP) serves as a fundamental example of effective international cooperation in producing high-quality vector geospatial data compliant with STANAG 2592 requirements. Adapting the MGCP database structure to national requirements will enable the transition from a cartography-oriented approach to a data-centric model, in which standardized vector data constitute the primary product. This adaptation will enable: bilateral exchange of geospatial information with allies; utilization of tools for automatic generalization and multi-scale databases; improvement of accuracy, consistency, and quality of digital cartographic products; establishment of a reliable foundation supporting reconnaissance, operational planning, and command and control.

C o n c l u s i o n s . The use of MGCP opens up broad prospects for the modernization of geoinformation support of the AFU, enhancement of situational awareness, digitalization of combat processes, and improvement of interoperability with international partners. The results of the conducted research on MGCP adaptation will be applied in the development of a technical guidance project for the production of vector geospatial data, aimed at establishing unified rules, procedures, and requirements for generating vector datasets, which form the basis of digital topographic maps for the needs of the AFU.
